Azure Dragon - Canvas Print

The Azure dragon is one of the four symbols of the Chinese constellations, representing the eastern region of the celestial sphere, and the spring season. Often referred to as the Blue or Green dragon, it has strong relationships to wood and water elements. The Blue Dragon is also known as a symbol for the planet Jupiter, which has major significance… as the entire Chinese astrological 12-year cycle was based upon Jupiter’s orbit, taking approximately 12 years. In many ways, the Azure Dragon is the foundation for the whole system.

With such significant connections to these astrological elements, I felt compelled to include stars, planets, and constellations in the artwork. The Azure dragon also represents blessings of good fortune, benevolence, and protection. I wanted to draw a parallel to the concept of “wishing upon a star”, or making a wish when you blow out birthday candles… to the friendly Azure dragon directing the movement of the stars with it’s breath, and spreading good luck across the galaxy.
